there was all this traveling from one city to another because later when i got my ph.d. from tulaine university and i went to the irish channel. it's interesting, the irish history connected with new orleans. so the o'reilly family has been in louisiana for centuries. in cuba, nobody remembers him but it was the street of calle oreilly, famous until the 50's for its banks and bookstores. it was one of the favorite streets of (inaudible) secretary of the spanish count of fernandino, my grandfather, another irish man feeling at home in havana. there, at the busy corner of calle street and oreilly was a cafe bakery owned by a catelan. it was described by many foreigners, in particular british and irish who lived in havana at the time, as one of the best order and most elegant cafes in the world. its large door led to a main floor with a fantastic stone floor. i saw it in the 50's, i was very little but i still was there in the 50's, and have a fountain that all that water really produce a refreshing sound that drown the patrons' loud conversations. but what made dominica famous, according to some

've had an inch of rain so far in the new york city area. another half-inch of rain coming. 45-mile-per-hour, 50-mile-per-hour winds. take a look at the damage that came in with the winds. four stories' worth of scaffolding collapsing. just one of the scaffolding collapses that we have seen in new york. "gma" storm site radar will show you there's plenty left in this storm, still plenty of rain from washington, d.c. to boston today. and plenty of snow in the back end behind it. we use this model to show us where the worst winds will be. what you need to look at is the red arrows. and those red arrows go from the boston area, north into maine, all the way to atlanta. this storm has big snowfall totals, big-time. 20 inches of snow coming down in some locations. and one of those places, williamsburg, iowa, picked up a good, heavy snowstorm and a blizzard. our ginger zee is right there. good morning, ginger. >> sam, we're tried desperately to get to chicago, just couldn't do it. i-80 kept shutting down. you can see why. this is what litters the side of the highway everywhere. trucks, se
to be this morning in mostly the big cities along i-95. right now winds 39 in philadelphia. 36 in scranton. you have to get in the 50-mile-per-hour range to get damaging winds. that will occur as the sun is coming up this morning around new york city, philadelphia, all of new jersey and then southern new england this afternoon. it's not pretty around chicago with winds at 40 and indianapolis at 40 and areas of snow out here. so it's a very windy day out there. not good for flying. a lot of airline delays. as far as the rain goes, the rain is in green, remember. heavy rain kicking up from philadelphia to new york city through the hudson valley, through scranton and binghamton, new york. that will be over the top of boston this afternoon. the back side of the storm has a lot of snow with it. areas in white. snowing hard in northern indiana through michigan. that snow will rotate through cleveland throughout the morning. very dangerous roads in cleveland as the colder air moves in. everything will be freezing. again, we're locked into the rain for the whole morning commute from philadelphia to new york

.m. here at 30 rock in new york city. >>> with 11 days until the fiscal cliff deadline, the house of representatives has gone home for christmas. and negotiations are in absolute limbo right now. in a pretty embarrassing setback last night, house speaker john boehner pulled the plug on his so-called plan b proposal that would have raised taxes on those making over $1 million. the republican-led house abruptly went on recess after boehner realized he just didn't have enough votes for the measure to pass. house majority leader eric cantor who assured earlier in the day that plan b would pass didn't have a whole thrott say last night. >> no vote tonight? >> no. >> will there be a vote tomorrow? >> nope. >> are you ditching plan b? will there be a vote today? >> no. >> a lot of nopes and then no answer when they asked if he was ditching plan b. republican congressman steve latourette was in the room when they called off the vote. >> led us in both the pledge and the prayer. he gave the serenity prayer. and then went to the microphone and said there's going to be a short conference. we

and heavy rain through the big cities of the northeast and soon new england. it's a rough morning for the commute. winds just gusted to 43 at jfk airport. you can imagine at the airports especially from new york city, philadelphia and northwards will have the most significant delays and cancellations on this friday. thankfully it's just rain. we're not really dealing with igs ice or snow in new england. it's a different story in the great lakes. it's a winter wonderland anywhere in the state of michigan. it snowed hard last night, northern indiana and much of the state of ohio right now is seeing snow. careful driving, interstate 70 going across the lower portions of the great lakes and the ohio valley. and the winds are gusting, too. we probably have a little bit of blowing and drifting snow in indiana, michigan and ohio. and again, those winds this morning around new york city could get as high as 60 miles per hour. the worst of it coming in the next three hours. so keep that in mind as you're driving on the roads or doing anything outdoors. as far as snowfall goes, over the nex
that federal lock up is in the city and considered that you can't brake out of it. somehow two people did . last night at len:30 one of the convicted bank robbers was found and arrested here in a small apartment building in chicago's lincoln park neighborhood. joseph jose banks arrested here without incident. he was not armed at the time and neighbors tell me they heard a loud bang and saw him walking out and just like the photograph that we broadcasted on television of the convicted bank robbers. they broke out of the metropolitan correctional center in the dead of night and looked like they made a rope out of the bed sheets and broke through the wall and lowered themselves from the high rise prison 15 or 20 stories down to freedom. they were seen catching a taxicab on michigan avenue and went to the robber's mother's house in the south suburb. last night the f.b.i. made an arrest and we hope to learn more today. back to you. >> allyson: a rope of bed sheets so effective but today. >> steve: he was the judge to the supreme court and sparked an epic battle and changed the politics of pick
